The new year started out with a bang. Sales were up over last year, and the number of pending sales (agreements that have been signed but not yet closed) made it the best January in 15 years. Mortgage rates fell to a 20 month low, further fueling demand. Strong demand combined with very tight inventory is boosting home prices, particularly those near the city centers.
